The Junior Jug & Quiach was played over the 2nd – 4th of June in 2023 at Newmacher Golf Club. The boys played over 54 holes and the girls played over 36 holes on both the Hawkshill Golf Course and the Swailend Course. A massive thank you to Newmacher Golf Club for their hospitality over the 3 days. Paul came along to watch the juniors over the 3 days and was very impressed with the golf on display.
The Junior Jug had just shy of 47 boys playing over the first two days and then the final day was a cut for 30 players and ties. Jake Johnston led the field after day 1 with a near course record score of 64 (-8) on the Swailend golf course. Alexander Farmer and Aidan Lawson opened up with 69’s (-3) to take the tie for 2nd place.
Day 2 was on the Hawkshill course which made scoring slightly more difficult, the wind was up however the sun was shining. The best scores of the day was 72 (E) from both Aidan Lawson and Brodie Cunningham. Jake Johnston maintained the lead after day 2 with a steady score of 73. (+1)
Going into day 3 Jake Johnston had a 6 shot lead on the rest of the field there it was his to lose. Aidan Lawson finished with a final round score of 72 to finish on -3 total for 54 holes. Alexander Farmer closed out with a 70 (-2) to finish on a total of -3 for the tournament. Brodie Cunningham throughout his final round was going well and finished up with a 68 (-4) to finish in 2nd place however it was Jake Johnston who led the tournament from the start with rounds of 64 (-8), 73 (+1) and 71 (-1) to finish on a 54 hole score of -8. He was the winner of the 2023 Junior Jug.
The Junior Quaich 2023 was played over the Hawkshill Golf Course on the Saturday (3rd of June) and the Swailend on the Sunday (4th of June). Day 1 saw Summer Elliott lead the field with a flawless round of 74 (+1) on the challenging Hawkshill golf course. Ruby Watt scored a respectable 77 (+4) but was looking to close the gap on Summer going into the final day. Carly McDonald joined Ruby and Summer in the final group on Sunday with a steady score of 77 (+5).
The final round of the Junior Quaich was played on the Swailend Golf Course, the sun was shining with a little bit of wind to make it slightly challenging for the girls. Summer Elliott stormed the rest of the field with a brilliant score of 70 (-2) to be crowned the Junior Quaich champion for 2023. Ruby Watt finished in 2nd place and Evie MacCallum took home 3rd place.
